Important cases heard in the Delhi High Court on Wednesday, March 6:

* HC sought the Centre’s stand on a plea challenging an order of the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs instructing the Maulana Azad Education Foundation (MAEF), which provides assistance to students and infrastructural support through grant-in-aid, to take forward the process for its closure.

* HC struck down the Delhi Assembly speaker’s order suspending seven BJP MLAs for interrupting Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena’s customary address to the budget session, holding that the punishment awarded was in “excess” of the rule invoked by the chair.

* HC directed the Department of Delhi Fire Services to expedite the process of issuing no-objection certificates sought by the municipal corporation regarding its 92 schools.

* HC said asking husband to live separately from his family amounts to cruelty by his wife.

* Office of Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena approached HC seeking to intervene in pleas challenging the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 on the ground that correct facts were not presented in the proceedings leading to creation of a false picture of the office of LG.

* HC directed formulation of SOP on the involvement of the forest department in planning of infrastructure projects requiring felling of trees in Delhi, saying an attempt has be made to co-exist with nature and permission for felling has to be the last resort.
