Security heightened in Srinagar as PM Modi prepares for key visit

Security has been ramped up across the valley ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Srinagar today. This marks his first visit to Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.

The Prime Minister is scheduled to attend the ‘Viksit Bharat Viksit Jammu Kashmir’ program at the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar. During the event, he is expected to inaugurate various development initiatives worth nearly Rs 5,000 crore aimed at boosting the region’s agri-economy and infrastructure.

The Prime Minister’s visit comes amidst heightened political activity in the region, with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the ongoing demand for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. It is anticipated that his address at the event might shed light on the government’s plans for the future of the region.

While the focus of the visit is on development initiatives, the security situation in the valley remains a prime concern. Strict security measures have been implemented, with additional security personnel deployed across Srinagar and other parts of Kashmir.
