Amar Singh College celebrates International Women’s Day

SRINAGAR, MARCH 12: Amar Singh College, Cluster University Srinagar observed International Women’s Day in collaboration with the Department of Social Welfare and Directorate of Mission Shakti J&K.

Dr Sheikh Ajaz Bashir, the nodal principal of Kashmir division colleges and Principal of Amar Singh College Srinagar delivered the presidential address. He emphasized that gender equality is a significant marker of a healthy society. He also pointed out that the equality and empowerment of women must be focused both in the education sector and entrepreneurship.

Earlier, Dr. Bazigha Badar Head, Department of Environmental Science, Amar Singh College delivered the inaugural address. She apprised the audience about this year’s Women’s Day celebration theme and stressed the need for women’s empowerment.

Hafiz Abdul Bari, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer North, also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the importance of women in society. Dr. Sabina Rasool, Head Department of Education, Amar Singh College also delivered a detailed lecture on the significance of the Women’s Day celebration. Prof. (Dr.) Syed Ajaz Farid, Head Department of Geography also shared his views on the day.

The event saw massive participation by the students and other stakeholders.

Day-long celebration was observed with artists performing Skits and cultural songs. The Chess event was also organized exclusively for women, along with self-defense training camp for women, and a singing competition.

Eleven stalls showcasing different skills and crafts by the women were displayed in the Taseer Hall. The stalls witnessed an encouraging footfall of visitors.

The day-long celebration concluded with the certificate distribution and a brief felicitation ceremony.
