Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages Organises Exhibition and Symposium on Nari Shakti

Jammu, March 14: Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts Jammu, in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture, and Languages, organized an exhibition titled “Shakti Rupen Sansthita” and a symposium on “Bhartiya Parampara Mein Shakti ka Kendra rahi hai Nariyan” to celebrate International Women’s Day today at K.L Sehgal Hall, Jammu.

Professor Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta, IFS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Culture, was the guest of honor. Professor Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, presided over the event. The symposium featured esteemed speakers including Dr. Suman Jamwal, Head of the Department of History at Jammu University, Dr. Shyam Narayan Lal, Professor of History at Jammu University, and Dr. Sudhanshu Kapoor, Joint Director of SCERT.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Professor Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, who lit the traditional lamp in the presence of Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta, Professor Pragati Kumar, Dr. Suman Jamwal, Dr. Shyam Narayan Lal, Dr. Sindhu Kapoor, Ms. Shruti Awasthi (Director, IGNCA Jammu), and Sh. Bharat Singh (Secretary, JKAACL).

In his address, Chief Guest Professor Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor of Jammu University, commended the efforts of IGNCA Jammu and JKAACL for organizing the exhibition and symposium. He emphasized that the “Shakti Rupen Sansthita” exhibition and symposium on ‘Women: The Core of Power in Indian Tradition’ celebrate the formidable strength of women in our culture. He urged everyone to honor their contributions, uphold their rights, and empower them for a progressive society rooted in equality and respect. Professor Pragati Kumar, Vice Chancellor of SMVDU, highlighted the importance of nurturing an environment where women’s potential flourishes unhindered, ensuring equal opportunities and respect, stating that their empowerment is key to societal progress.

In his lecture, Sh. Suresh Kumar Gupta, IFS, Principal Secretary to the Government of Jammu and Kashmir, Department of Culture, expressed his honor in being part of this significant event celebrating the ‘Shakti Rupen Sansthita’ exhibition and symposium. He stressed that women, the epitome of strength in Indian tradition, deserve utmost reverence and support, urging everyone to champion their empowerment and foster a society where their contributions are truly valued and respected.

At the outset, Sh. Bharat Singh, Secretary of JKAACL, welcomed the distinguished guests and audience, emphasizing that “Nari Shakti,” or women power, is the strength and resilience of women in our society. He called for empowering women, providing equal opportunities, and celebrating their achievements for a brighter, more inclusive future.

Dr. Suman Jamwal, Dr. Shyam Narayan Lal, and Dr. Sindhu Kapoor presented detailed papers on the occasion. Ms. Shruti Awasthi, Director of IGNCA Jammu, delivered the vote of thanks, while Ms. Amar Chouhan conducted the proceedings of the function.
