INTERNATIONAL SPARROW DAY celebrated at GCW Gandhi Nagar
Department of Zoology of GCW, Gandhi Nagar organized an avian talk on world sparrow day that aimed at spreading awareness about various avian species emphasizing mainly on the species found in Jammu and Kashmir (UT).
The event was organized under the support and guidance of Worthy Principal of GCW, Gandhi Nagar Prof. S.P Saraswat. The talk was delivered by Dr O.P Sharma Vidyarthi (Retd. Principal Chief Conservator of forests J&K Government, India). He discussed biodiversity with special reference to birds. He also emphasized on their pivotal role in social and religious purposes.
The students benefitted from the interactive session and were acquainted with many species that are vulnerable to extinction. He also appraised the students about the effects of anti-environmental activities on these species. The talk highlighted various key points related to our environment, biodiversity and their threats. The formal welcome address was given by Dr. Samriti Aggarwal, HOD, Dept. of Zoology. The organizing committee comprised of Dr. Anupama Pandotra, Dr. Meenakshi Bandral, Prof. Nargis Nelofar , Prof. Raheela Mushtaq, Prof. Shaista Ajaz and Dr. Raj Kumar Santhal. The formal vote of thanks was given by Ms Aarushi of Semester 2nd.
