Jammu transporters strike disrupts daily commute amid e-bus operations dispute
Jammu witnessed disruption in public transportation on Thursday as private bus operators went on a one-day strike to protest the operation of electric buses (e-buses) in the city.
The All Jammu and Transporter Welfare Association alleges that the e-buses, introduced under the Smart City initiative, are encroaching on profitable routes, threatening their livelihoods.
Transporters claim they had an agreement with the administration to restrict e-buses to less-congested routes. However, they accuse the government of reneging on this agreement, causing financial hardship.
The plight of auto-rickshaw drivers who faced unemployment after the introduction of e-rickshaws, fears a similar fate for bus operators.
The strike caused inconvenience to daily commuters in Jammu, who struggled to find alternative transportation.
