Kathua cyber police recover Rs 1.5 lakh in online fraud case
The District Cyber Cell of Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir successfully retrieved ₹1.5 lakh stolen through an online scam. The prompt action by the Cyber Cell prevented the defrauded amount from reaching the criminals.

The case involved Chaman Lal of Patel Nagar, Kathua, who reported the incident on April 25, 2024. Lal informed the authorities that an imposter, pretending to be his nephew, tricked him into transferring the money to a fraudulent account.
Kathua’s Cyber Cell team responded swiftly, managing to freeze the fraudulent transaction. This swift action ensured the entire amount was returned to Lal’s account.
The Kathua Police Department has urged the public to be cautious of suspicious online activity and report any such instances immediately to the Cyber Cell Kathua, the National Cyber Crime Helpline Number 1930, or the official portal at https://cybercrime.gov.in/.
