Jammu police cyber cell thwarts online fraud, recovers nearly ₹1.5 lakh

Jammu Cyber Cell successfully prevented a significant online financial fraud targeting residents of Jammu district. The incident involved a total attempted theft of ₹1,56,700, but swift action by the Cyber Cell’s District Police Officer (DPO) managed to freeze ₹1,48,500, saving a large portion of the stolen amount.

The incident involved three separate complaints lodged with the Cyber Cell, with a total reported loss of ₹1,56,700. In one instance, the victim clicked on a fraudulent message, leading to unauthorized access and a ₹60,000 debit from their account.

Another involved an investment scam on Telegram, where the victim lost ₹60,000 after being lured into a fake scheme.

The third case involved a stolen phone, with the perpetrator making unauthorized transactions worth ₹36,700.

Acting swiftly, the Cyber Cell DPO Jammu promptly intervened and managed to freeze a significant portion of the stolen funds, amounting to ₹1,48,500. This prevented the fraudsters from accessing the money and minimized the victims’ losses.

The investigation into these cases is ongoing as the authorities work to identify and apprehend the culprits. This incident highlights the growing threat of cybercrime and the importance of remaining vigilant online.
