Orientation programme under holistic agriculture kick-started in Kupwara

KUPWARA, FEBRUARY 8: Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, G.M Dobhi today kick-started month long orientation programme for officers, technical and field staff of the Agriculture and allied departments, here. 

On the occasion, the Chief Agriculture Officer said that the aim of the orientation programme is to improve the know-how of the technical and field staff of the Agriculture and allied departments regarding scientific agriculture techniques and best farming practices which will ultimately result in the transfer of knowledge from lab to land.

 He said that the UT Government has recently launched a holistic Agriculture Development Plan in J&K adding that the Conceptualization formulation and approval of the massive transformative mission to reform Agriculture and allied sectors in J&K was finalized and translated on the ground in just 5 month period. 

CAO said that the homogenous exercise began with the constitution of the Apex Committee under the chairmanship of Dr. Mangla Rai (former Director General ICAR) by the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor and culminated with the finalization of a transformative mission for holistic development of Agriculture and allied sectors in J&K with the potential to transform the subsistence agriculture of J&K into sustainable commercial Agri-economy. 

The approved plan comprising 29 project proposals shall push agriculture and allied sectors to a new trajectory of growth with economy ecology and equity as its guiding pillars, added CAO.

The Chief said in the 1st phase of implementation, three days UT level orientation programme was held in Jammu wherein all the District, Divisional and UT Level Officers participated. In the second phase, District Level resource persons were trained at SKUAST- Kashmir and at Directorate of Agriculture, Srinagar for a period of one month during January 2023.

 In order to strengthen the chain of expertise the orientation programme of all 29 projects started at district level with effect from 6th of this month and  will remain in force upto 10th April to impart necessary technical knowledge among the block/zonal level officers who will be actually involved in Implementation of these projects at ground level, said the CAO.
