“He was very happy”: Amritpal Singh’s mother after he gets elected as MP from Khadoor Sahib
Dibrugarh (Assam) [India], June 8 (ANI): Balwinder Kaur, the mother of jailed Khalistani separatist and Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat winner, Amritpal Singh, said on Saturday that the latter was “very happy” after getting elected as an MP.
Singh’s parents, earlier today, paid a visit to him in Assam’s Dibrugarh jail, where he has been kept since his arrest last year. He was arrested by Punjab police in April last year, weeks after he evaded police and the stringent National Security Act was invoked against him.
He won the Khadoor Sahib Lok Sabha seat with a massive margin of 1,97,120 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Kulbir Singh Zira of Congress. He ran for office as an independent candidate.
“He (Amritpal Singh) was very happy…We felt very happy after meeting him…He asked to thank everyone who supported him”, Balwinder Kaur said while speaking to reporters.
Tarsem Singh, father of Amritpal Singh, Waris Punjab De Chief, said that the government should withdraw all cases against him.
“He (Amritpal Singh) asked to thank every voter who supported him…He will work to serve the public…The public has given such a big mandate, the government should withdraw all the cases and should allow him to raise the voice of Punjab in Lok Sabha…” Singh said.
