Awareness Programme on drugs and substance abuse organised at Govt Hr Sec School, Khaltse
Leh, June 14, 2024: The Department of Information and Public Relations in collaboration with Education Department, Health Department and Ladakh Police, Leh organised an awareness programme on ‘Drugs and Substance Abuse’ at Government Higher Secondary School, Khaltse today on June 14.
The programme is part of the ongoing efforts by the Administration of Union Territory of Ladakh to address the pressing issue of drug menace. The department has been conducting similar awareness campaigns across various schools and colleges in Leh district.
Adolescent Friendly Health Clinics (AFHC), Counsellors, Khaltse, Dechen Dolker and Stanzin Tonfan; Principal, Govt. Higher Secondary School, Khaltsi, Tsewang Paljor; Assistant Exhibition & Culture Officer, DIPR Leh; Assistant Information Officer, DIPR Leh; Culture Assistant, DIPR Leh; students, faculty and staff members of four different schools of Khaltsi sub-division -Government Higher Secondary School , Government Middle School, Lamdon Jamyang School and Moravian Mission School, Khaltse took part in this programme.
Two short films titled “Echoes of Redemption” and “Trapped” were screened during the awareness programme reflecting the realities of addiction, and its ill effect on individuals, families and societies.
Highlighting the short films, Counsellor, AFHC, Dechen Dolker said that the short films were not only informative but also emotionally engaging, portraying the adverse consequences of drug use. She further underscored that the films resonate with everyone, from teenagers to adults, by highlighting real-life stories and struggles. Additionally, she urged the students to seek help and emphasized that it is a collective effort of everyone in the society to get rid of drugs and substance abuse.
AE&CO, Stanzin Wangmo also shared her views and advised students to equip themselves with information about drugs and the life skills to deal with different life situations without turning to drugs.
Later, an interactive session was held where students in groups asked their questions to counsellors Dechen Dolker and Stanzin Tonfan about mental health.
