FICCI FLO JKL Distributes 6000 Masks to TB Patients
Jammu, June 20, 2024 – In a significant effort to combat tuberculosis (TB) and reduce infections caused by the non-wearing of masks, FICCI FLO JKL distributed 6000 6-ply face masks to TB patients. Additionally, nutrition kits were distributed as part of FLO JKL’s ongoing initiative to provide nutritional support to 100 TB patients. This endeavor directly utilizes funds raised through the ‘RUN4HEALTH’ Marathon. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Ajay Sharma (JKPS), SP South Block, Jammu. The donated masks were provided by Dynamic Solutions, represented by Mr. Sumeet Malhotra, and the program is being implemented with support from Dr. Amita Turki, District Tuberculosis Officer, at the District Tuberculosis Centre, Jammu.
Mr. Ajay Sharma (JKPS), SP South Block, Jammu, appreciated the efforts of FICCI FLO JKL in spearheading health-related initiatives for the benefit of the common people. He also spoke with the TB patients and encouraged them to remain positive and fight the disease by remaining informed and acting responsibly.
Ruchika Gupta, Chairperson of FICCI FLO JKL, highlighted the critical issue of TB in India, stating, “An estimated 2.8 million people in India are diagnosed with TB annually, making it one of the most significant public health challenges in the country. TB is a leading cause of death in India, with two deaths occurring every three minutes due to the disease. This initiative supports the Nikshay Poshan Yojna, focusing on the nutritional needs of TB patients to ensure they can adhere to their treatment regimen, improve their diet, and achieve faster recovery. Additionally, the distribution of masks will help prevent its spread.”
Acknowledging the government’s efforts, Ruchika Gupta added, “Our Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi Ji has set an ambitious goal of TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan by 2025. FLO JKL’s initiative is a step towards contributing to this national cause. Community engagement and support are crucial in TB control efforts. Initiatives like the distribution of masks and nutrition kits are vital in providing necessary support to TB patients.”
The nutrition kits include essential items such as pulses, millets, rice, atta, soya, B-complex supplements, and oil, designed to meet the dietary needs of TB patients over six months. These comprehensive packs ensure balanced nutrition, crucial for treatment and recovery, as malnutrition is a significant risk factor for TB in India, weakening the immune system and increasing susceptibility to the disease.
Several distinguished members of FICCI FLO JKL were present during the launch, including Varuna Anand, Immediate Past Chair, Varsha Bansal, Vice Chairperson, Sona Mehta, Treasurer, and Nandita Bajaj, Joint Secretary. The FICCI FLO JKL core team reiterated their commitment to supporting social causes in alignment with national objectives.
