International Yoga Day celebrated with enthusiasm, festivity across Jammu Division
JAMMU, JUNE 21: The 10th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today with great fervor and enthusiasm across the Jammu Division.
At Kathua: The District Administration Kathua organized a grand event to commemorate the 10th International Yoga Day, focusing on the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.” The celebration, held at Sports Stadium Kathua, drew thousands of participants, including Deputy Commissioner Dr. Rakesh Minhas, Additional Secretary Health & Medical Education Chand Kishore Sharma, ADDC Kathua Surinder Mohan, ADC Kathua Ranjit Singh, ASP Paramjit Singh, ADMO (ISM) and other esteemed officials.
Participants, ranging from officials to community members, engaged in a series of yoga practices following the common Yoga Protocol, including Pranayama and Sukshma Asanas.
Highlighting the significance of yoga, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized that yoga should not be limited to a single day of celebration but should become an integral part of daily routines for its profound benefits to both physical and mental health.
At Doda: To celebrate the 10th International Yoga Day, the district administration Doda, in collaboration with the Ayush department, organized a grand yoga session at the Sports Stadium Doda, here this morning.
The event was graced by DDC Chairman Dhananter Singh Kotwal and Deputy Commissioner Harvinder Singh, who participated in the yoga exercises along with DDC Vice Chairperson, Sangeeta Bhagat, ADC Sudershan Kumar, ACR Sunil Bhutyal, ACD Manoj Kumar, CPO Manesh Kumar, District Program Officer Parmjeet Singh and other district officers and officials.
The session saw a large turnout of students from various government and private schools, staff from the District Youth Services & Sports Office and a large number of women from government departments as well as households.
The DDC emphasized the importance of yoga for maintaining good health and encouraged regular practice.
Similar events were also organised in multiple locations of the district including Bhadarwah, Assar etc.
At Reasi: In a grand celebration of the 10th International Yoga Day, the District Administration Reasi, in collaboration with the Ayush Department, organized a mega yoga session at the General Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium.
The event saw the enthusiastic participation of around 2,000 individuals from various walks of life, including students and local residents.
Expert yoga instructors guided participants through a series of asanas, pranayama and meditation techniques.
Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan lauded the collaborative efforts of the Ayush Department and other local organizations in making the event a grand success. He highlighted the significance of International Yoga Day as a reminder of the ancient practice’s relevance in today’s fast-paced world.
CO IRP Anita Sharma, ADC Kulbhushan Khajuria, Adl. SP Iftkhar Ahmed, ACR Anshumali Sharma, Joint Director CPO Narinder Kumar, District Ayush Officer Kamal Kishore Dubey, DIO Nasir Ahmed and other officers were present.
At Ramban: The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated as a grand festival across the district of Ramban with an outpouring of enthusiasm from various departments, organizations, and institutions.
The primary celebration took place in the premises of the District Administrative Complex, Maitra Ramban. The event was organized by the District Administration in collaboration with the Department of AYUSH. Over 2000 participants, including Deputy Commissioner Ramban, Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary and SSP Ramban, Anuj Kumar, took part in the yoga sessions. Other prominent attendees included ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR S. Harpal Singh, CPO and various senior officers who actively participated in the yoga demonstrations.
The celebrations extended beyond the district headquarters to block, tehsil and sub-division levels in Gool, Banihal and Ramsoo, where SDMs and other officials joined in the observance.
Government Degree College Banihal, Ramban, Ukhral and Gool, as well as the Government Polytechnic College Ramban and various schools, also marked the occasion.
Deputy Commissioner Baseer-Ul-Haq Chaudhary commended all stakeholders for their efforts in making the 10th International Yoga Day a resounding success. He encouraged participants to integrate yoga into their daily routines to maintain a fresh, healthy, and stress-free life.
At Rajouri: The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Rajouri district today with the theme, “Yoga for Self and Society.”
The main function was held at the Sports Stadium Kheora, where a large number of people from all walks of life gathered for celebrations of IYD 2024.
The event was supervised by Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Om Prakash Bhagat; ADDC, Dr. Raj Kumar Thapa; ADC, Rajiv Kumar Khajuria; GM DIC, Fareed Kohli; ACR, Mohd Jhangir Khan; ACP Sheraz Chowhan besides all other officers and officials were also present at the occasion.
The yoga instructors performed various yoga asanas and led the enthusiastic participants through a series of stretches and postures, promoting the holistic benefits of yoga for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.
The event witnessed the active participation of people from all age groups, underscoring the universal appeal and benefits of yoga.
At Udhampur: To commemorate the 10th International Yoga Day, a yoga camp was organized by District Administration Udhampur in collaboration with Indian Systems of Medicine Department (ISM) Ayush, District Youth Services & Sports Department, J&K Sports Council District Udhampur on the theme ‘‘Yoga for self and society” here, at Subash Stadium Udhampur.
District Development Council Chairman, Lal Chand, Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur, Saloni Rai, SSP Joginder Singh, ADDC Rajinder Singh, ADC Joginder Singh Jasrotia, PO Poshan, Subash Dogra, ACR, Dr Umesh Shan, ACD, Dr Ranjeet Singh Kotwal, former Councillors, prominent citizens also participated in the camp and performed Yog Asanas along with participants .
While highlighting the importance of yoga, the DC said that yoga is an invaluable gift of India to the world. It brings harmony in all walks of life and helps in disease prevention, health promotion and management of stress and anxiety besides helping to prevent many lifestyle related disorders.
Similar functions were celebrated at Sub Division Chenani, Ramnagar, Dudu and Basantgarh of District Udhampur.
Additionally, the 10th edition of IYD was celebrated with great enthusiasm in Patnitop, attracting over 400 participants, including tourists, students, stakeholders, locals and government officials.
At Samba: Under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Samba, Abhishek Sharma, the District Administration celebrated the 10th International Yoga Day with a virtual event held at Rani Suchet Singh Stadium, Samba. This celebration coincided with the main event at SKICC, Srinagar.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from youth and local residents of different age groups, who gathered to embrace the physical, mental, and spiritual benefits of yoga. Apart from Rani Suchet Singh Stadium, International Yoga Day was also celebrated at AIIMS Vijaypur and other educational institutions across district Samba.

At Kishtwar: The tenth International Day of Yoga 2024 was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal today across the district Kishtwar with the theme “Yoga for Self and Society.”
The mega program was organized by the Ayush Department Kishtwar in collaboration with the District Administration Kishtwar, Department of Youth Services and Sports, Kishtwar Development Authority, Education Department, Police Department, Indian Army and paramilitary forces, here at the historical Chowgan Ground, Kishtwar.
Over 1700 enthusiastic participants from diverse backgrounds, including elders, children, women, government functionaries, troops of Police, Army and Paramilitary Forces and students from different schools actively participated and contributed to the grand success of the event.
The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar, Dr. Devansh Yadav, SSP, Abdul Qayoom, ADC, Pawan Kumar Kotwal, ASP Rajinder Kumar, ACR, Idrees Lone, ACD Kishtwar Phulail Singh, CPO, Shahnawaz Bali, DSEO, Akhil Sen, DSWO, Zubair Ahmed, Tehsildar, CMO, Dy CEO, AD Fisheries, DIO NIC Pankaj Bhardwaj besides Officers of Civil, Army, Para military forces and PRI members.
Similar celebrations were witnessed throughout the length and breadth of Kishtwar District, including educational institutions.
At Poonch: The 10th International Yoga Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and zeal in District Poonch at Indoor Sports Stadium.
The International Yoga Day 2024 theme is “Yoga for Self and Society.” This subject emphasises the double benefits of yoga practice: enhancing personal well-being and improving society at large.
District Development Commissioner Poonch, Yasin M. Choudhary, Senior Superintendent of Police, besides all district officers, senior citizens, students from education institutions, NSS Volunteers and sports institutions in large number, attended the event.
While speaking on the occasion, the DC urged people to embrace yoga by making it a part of their daily routine, as it helps in boosting the immune system and keeping various ailments at bay.
Instructors from Ayush Department conducted various yoga exercises and Asanas during the event. The event helped raise awareness about the benefits of yoga and its importance in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
