DC Udhampur reviews road safety measures at DRSC Meeting

UDHAMPUR, JUNE 27: Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai chaired a meeting of the District Road Safety Committee to review road safety measures in the district. The meeting took place in the Mini Conference Hall DC Office Complex Udhampur.


Senior Superintendent of Police Joginder Singh; Additional Deputy Commissioner Joginder Singh Jasrotia; ARTO Jugal Sharma; Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY, and district officers from various departments attended the meeting.
A detailed discussion was held on multiple aspects, including the enforcement of traffic rules, identification of black spots, minimizing road accidents, conduct of awareness programs, working of traffic management system, traffic decongestion on busy routes and the installation of signage. Emphasis was laid on close check on overloading, overspeeding, Rash driving and road maintenance. “Overloading is one of the reasons for accidents in the district which needs to be checked by taking stringent measures” the DC emphasized.


The DC asked for beautification of Jakhani Chowk and exploring possibilities for construction of foot over bridge at Jakhani and flying over at Tikri Chowk.
Executive Engineers from PWD and PMGSY were directed to ensure regular maintenance of roads to prevent accidents. They were asked to identify black spots and take corrective measures by fixing signboards and installing crash barriers.
Traffic police were instructed to regulate traffic, reduce jams, and manage overloading in the district with the assistance of local police for the convenience of the general public.


The DC called for widespread awareness about safety rules and taking corrective measures to make roads safer for commuters. For strict enforcement of traffic rules, the DC asked MVA and traffic authorities to take stern action against violators and stressed the need to increase penalties for overloading, driving without helmets, and over-speeding.
