Joint Director, Sheep Husbandry, Ladakh assesses pashmina purity detector lab in Leh

Leh, July 12, 2024: The Joint Director, Sheep Husbandry, UT Ladakh, Dr Iftikhar Hussain along with District Sheep Husbandry Officer, Leh, Dr Tsewang Morup visited the Disease Surveillance Centre at Changspa, Leh and took stock of the various activities carried out at the lab on July 12.


Officer Incharge, Disease Surveillance Centre, Leh, Dr Mohd Abass briefed the Joint Director about the lab. The Joint Director reviewed the recently installed pashmina purity detector that works by DNA analysis through real time PCR and setting up of a dedicated lab section for molecular detection of various samples.
Further, he suggested minor modifications and renovations in the existing vacant room in the building premises for creation of the DNA dedicated lab and directed the DSHO, Leh for early execution of the changes.


The Joint Director hoped that with the installation of the DNA analyser the department would be in a position to provide a confirmatory report for pashmina purity as well as in confirming various infectious diseases of livestock.
