District Administration gears up to make Udhampur Plastic free

Seizes 312 Kg polythene, imposes fines amounting to Rs. 23000 to violators


UDHAMPUR, JULY 20: In a significant effort under the supervision of Deputy Commissioner Udhampur Saloni Rai, a massive drive was undertaken to make District Udhampur Polythene-free.


A team led by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Joginder Singh Jasrotia and comprising of other district officials including Assistant Commissioner Revenue Dr Umesh Shan, CEO Municipal Council, Divisional Officer Pollution Control Board, Assistant Controller Legal Metrology, and Assistant Director Handloom, among others, conducted thorough search and seizure operations targeting illegal polythene use and distribution.


The aim of the drive was not only to enforce the elimination of polythene and single-use plastics but also to educate and create awareness among the public about their harmful environmental impacts. The campaign emphasized promoting sustainable alternatives to plastic bags.


A total of 312.4 kilograms of polythene was seized during the drive, with fines amounting to Rs. 23000 imposed and recovered from the defaulters on spot to discourage further violations.


Teams were also mobilized at Sub-divisional, Tehsil, Block and Headquarters—to support the initiative.


Simultaneously, a comprehensive awareness campaign was conducted to educate the public about the harmful environmental impacts of polythene and to promote sustainable alternatives.
