BJP Kashmir Displaced District Pushes for Swift Solutions to Migrant Camp Problems

Critical Concerns in Jagti and Nagrota Presented to Relief Commissioner

Adv Today, a delegation from the BJP Kashmir Displaced District, including General Secretary H K Razdan and Vice Presidents Chetan Wanchoo and Vimal Raina, met with Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Sh. Arvind Karwani to discuss the pressing concerns of residents from the Kashmiri migrant camp in Jagti and TRT Camp Nagrota. During the meeting, the delegation presented a comprehensive memorandum outlining the urgent issues that need immediate resolution.

The delegation informed Commissioner Karwani about the significant problem of non-functional street lights in the area. This has particularly affected elderly residents who fear walking outside during the evening hours due to potential encounters with insects and snakes. The delegation emphasized the need for swift repairs and restoration of the street lighting to ensure the safety and security of all residents.

In addition to lighting issues, the delegation highlighted severe water supply problems. The existing tubewell requires repairs, and the current water systems are non-operational. They stressed the necessity for immediate repairs and maintenance to ensure a reliable and clean water supply for the community.

Another critical issue brought to the Commissioner’s attention was the deteriorating condition of the internal roads in Jagti. These poor road conditions have made daily commutes and transportation difficult for residents. The delegation urged prompt action to repair and maintain these roads to improve mobility and access within the area.

Security concerns were also raised due to recent incidents of theft. Although the SDPO office of Nagrota had previously identified spots for CCTV installation, no action has been taken to implement these measures. The delegation underscored the importance of installing these security cameras to enhance the safety of the residents.

Despite an annual investment in sanitation, the area continues to face significant sanitation challenges. The delegation called for the installation of proper dustbins and regular waste collection to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. They also recommended a review of the current fund utilization to ensure effective sanitation practices are being followed.

The need for an updated voter list with contact details, categorized by constituency for Kashmiri Pandits, was reiterated. This measure is essential for better communication and coordination within the community.

Additionally, the delegation highlighted the urgent need for maintenance of passenger sheds in Jagti to provide adequate shelter and convenience for commuters. They also advocated for the installation of an open gym at TRT Nagrota to promote physical fitness and well-being among the residents.

Relief and Rehabilitation Commissioner Sh. Arvind Karwani assured the delegation that these issues will be addressed promptly to improve the quality of life for the residents of Jagti and TRT Camp Nagrota.
