NCB Guwahati seizes 6.790 kg of Methamphetamine, apprehends two in major drug bust
Guwahati (Assam) [India], July 25 (ANI): In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) Guwahati Zonal Unit seized 6.790 kg of drugs and apprehended two individuals on July 23.
The operation followed several days of continuous surveillance based on special intelligence.
The NCB identified and dismantled an inter-state syndicate involved in the trafficking of Methamphetamine from Churachandpur in Manipur to Shillong in Meghalaya.
“NCB, Guwahati Zonal Unit apprehended two persons at ISBT By Pass, Sonari Road, Silchar (Assam) on the evening of July 23 while they were proceeding towards Shillong (Meghalaya) in a car. On search, NCB Guwahati team recovered and seized 6.790 kg of Methamphetamine from their possessions,” the Zonal Director of NCB, Guwahati said in a press statement.
The apprehended individuals have been identified as Gouzalal Singson from Churachandpur, Manipur, and Thangminlun Lhungdim from Sangaikot, Manipur.
Earlier this month, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam police seized more than 2 kg of heroin worth Rs 17.5 crore in two separate operations and apprehended four drug peddlers.
In the first operation, the STF team recovered 1.732 kg of heroin worth Rs 15 crore in Golaghat district on Sunday and apprehended two persons.
Pranab Jyoti Goswami, CPRO of Assam police said that, based on credible source information regarding stocking of large quantities of contraband drugs, a raid was conducted by the team of STF, Assam and one soap box of heroin containing 13 grams from the possesion of Md Shohidul Islam and Oliullah Hussain was recovered.
“Further, during spot interrogation, the two apprehended persons admitted about heroin being kept concealed in their sister’s house nearby and being led by the two apprehended persons to the house of their sister Jahida Khatoon and recovered another 140 numbers of soap boxes of heroin which were kept in concealed condition in their sister house premises.
The weight of the recovered Heroin is found to be 1.719 kg. A total of 141 soap boxes of weight 1.732 kg were recovered. The value of the seized contraband is approximately Rs 15 crore,” Pranab Jyoti Goswami said.
