Seventh Day of Protest at Digdole: Workers Demand Rights, Fairoz Khan Joins to Show Support

Digdole, Ramban July 30: On the seventh day of protest, over 200 workers in Digdole have gathered to demand justice from the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI), Tata Projects, and sub-contractors Unique UHPC Macro Line LLC and Diss Infra Pvt. Ltd. The workers, who have diligently worked for the past two years, are fighting for their rights following the recent disengagement of Diss Infra Pvt. Ltd.

The protesters, chanting slogans such as “We want justice,” “Tata company murdabad,” “Awaaz do hum ek hain,” “Unique UHPC Macro Line LLC murdabad,” and “NHAI Project Director murdabad,” have drawn attention to their plight.

The disengagement has left 126 skilled local workers, many of whom are land donors affected by the company’s operations, without employment. Unique UHPC Macro Line LLC has failed to absorb these workers, leaving them without prospects. The ongoing subletting has also contributed to unsafe working conditions and environmental hazards, including an increased risk of landslides.

Adv. Fairoz Khan, former National President of NSUI and Former State Working President of Youth Congress J&K, joined the protest to show solidarity with the workers. Khan assured the workers of his full support and commitment to their cause. He stressed the need for fair treatment and urged the responsible companies to address the grievances of the workers promptly.

“The workers have been the backbone of this project, and it is unacceptable for them to be left in such a precarious situation. I stand with them in their fight for justice and will do everything in my power to ensure they receive the employment and wages they deserve,” said Fairoz Khan.

Despite meetings with officers of Unique UHPC Macro Line LLC, Khan expressed dissatisfaction with their responses, which has led to the continuation of the strike. The NHAI and Tata Projects have not yet addressed the issue, intensifying the workers’ frustrations.

The workers have pledged to continue their demonstration until their demands are met. They have also appealed to the Deputy Commissioner of Ramban and the LG administration for intervention.

The protest is set to continue until a satisfactory resolution is achieved. The workers remain resolute in their stance against intimidation tactics, including threats of PSA by BJP leaders and contractors. Their message is clear: “We will fight, we will not back down.”
