Farmers delegation meets Deputy Commissioner Reasi

REASI, JULY 31: A delegation of farmers, led by District President Sohan Lal Sharma, met with Deputy Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan, to present various demands and address the issues faced by the people in their areas.

The delegation highlighted several key concerns, including the poor condition of water channels (Kuhls) in the district. They also stressed the urgent need to issue land record pass books to farmers, which has been delayed due to incomplete land settlements.

They emphasized the importance of conducting Girdawri at the field level, ensuring necessary corrections are made on the spot. Many houses constructed on private land are not reflected in the Girdawri records, and this needs to be rectified.

A significant demand from the farmers is the organization of awareness camps at every tehsil by the Revenue Department to educate them about new and changing land laws. Additionally, they requested the construction of a Kissan Ghar at the district headquarters in Reasi.

The delegation called for the restoration of ownership rights to farmers who have been evicted from state-declared lands, taking into consideration existing land laws. They also urged the establishment of a proper mechanism for acquiring land from farmers to resolve ongoing disputes.

Other demands included the revision and regularization of rent for land under Army use in Reasi, construction of small check dams under MGNREGA scheme, reorganization and strengthening of Cooperative Societies in the district and construction of Passenger Shed at Serward/Hut.

The Deputy Commissioner listened attentively to the farmers’ grievances and assured them that their demands would be given due consideration. He emphasized the administration’s commitment to the welfare of farmers and promised to take immediate steps to address the issues raised.
