GDC Ramgarh organises plantation drive under ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ campaign

SAMBA, JULY 31: In a concerted effort towards environmental conservation and sustainable development, the NSS Unit ‘Prabha’ and the Department of Environment Sciences of Government Degree College (GDC), Ramgarh jointly organized a plantation drive under the theme ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’ in collaboration with Social Forestry Department Jammu (Vijaypur Range).


The programme was conducted under overall guidance and patronage of the principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Geetanjali Andotra. She underscored the critical role of trees in maintaining ecological balance and sustainable development. She emphasized that such initiatives not only contribute to enhancing green cover but also play a vital role in mitigating climate change impacts. The whole event was coordinated by Nodal Officer Prof. Brham Dutt (NSS) and Ashok Kumar, PTI.


The event was graced by the esteemed presence of Keshav Sharma, DDC Chairperson, district Samba, who attended as the Chief Guest. Amreek Singh, Forest officer and other officials from Forest Department were also present.


Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, extended a warm welcome to all attendees, emphasizing the significance of collective action in promoting environmental awareness. During the event, some of the students of the college also shared their perspectives on environmental conservation, highlighting their role in taking proactive steps towards a greener future.


DDC Chairperson delivered an impassioned speech on the theme “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam,” stressing the interconnectedness between trees and environmental sustainability. His address resonated with the audience, urging them to take active steps towards protecting our natural resources.


Further, a tree-planting session commenced with enthusiastic participation from faculty members, students, and volunteers. Together, they planted a variety of indigenous saplings, symbolizing their commitment to environmental conservation and biodiversity enhancement.
