Mega Awareness programme on rising Suicide cases & services provided by DoSW held at B’pora

BANDIPORA, February 16: J&K-Women Helpline-181 and DHEW- Mission Shakti Bandipora today organised an awareness programme at Zone Nowgam with Poshan Project Sumbal Bandipora to generate mass awareness on rising Suicide cases, and services provided by Department of Social Welfare in the district.
The Awareness programme was organised on the directions of District Development Commissioner Bandipora, Dr.Owais Ahmad and under the Supervision of District Program Officer, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak.
Large number of Poshan workers attended the awareness camp along with local community, Panchyat Raj Members and other concerned.
Speaking on the occasion, Campaigner cum Coordinator WHL-181, Bilal Bhat highlighted the overall services provided by the helpline round the clock.
Bhat, threw light on Women empowerment schemes available at District level such as DHEW, OSC, WHL 181, Shelter Home, Marriage Assistance Scheme, Ladli Beti, PMMVY, Employment generation schemes such as Tajeswani, Mumkin, PMEGP, etc.
Giving details, he said the helpline provides 24-hour immediate response to women in distress and represent them before the appropriate service providers such as police, DHEW, and DLSA (Legal authorities).
He said that One Stop Centre (SAKHI-OSC) also provides services like hospital assistance, emergency response, and psychological support/counseling, temerity shelter, etc.
Bhat further informed the participants that they can get help from the helpline in case of domestic violence, dowry abuse, mental torture, sexual assault, eve-teasing, cyber-crime, child sexual abuse, rape, economical violence or any other distress situation.
Coordinator WHL-181 apprised Women folk that Suicide is not a Solution, “Break your Silence, Raise your voice” if you are facing Domestic Violence, Sexual harassment, Economic and Dowry Disputes, etc. In this situation Dial 24/7 Hours Toll Free no. 181 to get Access to Justice, Access to Welfare and Access to District Administration.
Aisha Shafi and Sumaya Muzaffar, Gender Specialists apprised the folk regarding the BBBP scheme and services available at DHEW Bandipora.
The concerned officials also highlighted the working and functioning of the District Social Welfare department at district level.
Participants pledged to strengthen the message “Let’s Stand Today for the Better Tomorrow”.
