Horticulture Department organises plantation drive at Satwari

JAMMU, AUGUST 10: The Department of Horticulture Jammu is celebrating “Swachhta Pakhwada” & “Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam” campaign across the Jammu division with great enthusiasm and spirit.


As part of “Swachhta Pakhwada”& “Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam” initiatives, the department of Horticulture Jammu organised a plantation drive at Village Sonjhana, Satwari.


A sapling of Mango plant was planted by the family members of the Martyrs and Director Horticulture Jammu, Chaman Lal Sharma during the drive.
Chief Horticulture Officer Jammu, R. K Kotwal, DL- SMS, Sandeep Gupta, Horticulture Development Officers, besides a large gathering of farmers including women were present on the occasion.


Meanwhile, an awareness programme was organized at village Sonjhana, of Satwari block presided over by the Director Horticulture Jammu, wherein a large number of farmers including women participated. Director emphasized the importance of the “Ek Ped Shaheedon Ke Naam” campaign in his address, highlighting its role in the ongoing celebrations of Independence Day, 2024 and also administered a “Tiranga pledge” on the occasion.


The Director asserted that the act of planting these trees serves as a gesture of respect besides a lasting legacy that will continue to remind future generations of the bravery and sacrifice of these national heroes symbolising a living tribute to the Martyrs.


He further remarked that planting trees in honour of martyrs not only ensures their memory is preserved but also contributes to the environment, symbolizing growth, continuity and enduring spirit of those who have served the nation.


During the interaction, the Director sensitized the farming community about the incentives available under various centrally sponsored schemes particularly Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) and other UT sponsored schemes of the department.


He urged farmers to come forward and avail the benefits on different schemes of the Department of Horticulture for upliftment of their socio- economic status
Further, the family members of the Martyrs were also honoured by Director Horticulture on the occasion.
