Hands on Workshop on Robot Programming With ROS Organizes at Central University Jammu

Jammu, 1 Sept 2024: The Department of Electronics and Communication at Central University of Jammu organized a full day hands-on workshop on Robot Programming using the Robot Operating System (ROS). The workshop was graced by Dr. Radhe Shayam Sharma, Assistant Professor from the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering at IIT Mandi, who, along with his team, delivered an insightful lecture along with practical training.

Dr. Sharma’s session covered the diverse applications of robotics, emphasizing its crucial role in earthquake rescue scenarios and industrial tasks. He discussed advanced topics like detecting and removing task anomalies in 3D box packing, AI-based low-power, portable, radiation-safe devices, and a cutting-edge CSI signal concentrator. Additionally, he introduced a 3D imaging device for the autonomous detection and segmentation of internal impurities, highlighting its potential in improving safety and efficiency in various industries.

A significant portion of the workshop was dedicated to visual robot programming and programming for groups of robots. Dr. Sharma and his team provided hands-on training to the B.Tech students of the Electronics and Communication Department, spanning 1st to 3rd-year students. The interactive sessions allowed the students to gain practical experience and deepen their understanding of robotic programming.

The event, which was well-received by the participants, was organized by the Department of Electronics and Communication under the leadership of Prof. Rakesh Kumar Jha, Head DoECE. The workshop coordinated Dr. Sunil Datt Sharma along with other faculty of the department. The anchoring of the workshop was handled by Dr. Misbah, who ensured that the event ran smoothly and efficiently. The workshop provided students with a valuable opportunity to learn from experts in the field and apply their knowledge in real-world scenarios.
