Woman dies after being hit by speeding car in Mumbai’s Malad; driver arrested
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], September 4 (ANI): A 27-year-old woman died after a speeding car allegedly hit her in the Malad area of Mumbai, Police officials said on Wednesday.
According to the police, the driver ran over the woman and dragged her for some distance, leading to severe injuries. The accused driver took her to the hospital with others, where the doctors declared her dead.
The woman, identified as Shahana Kazi, was reportedly going home after attending a class when the car allegedly hit her late at night on Tuesday.
After the complaint of the deceased’s husband, the Mumbai police registered a case under the relevant sections of BNS and MVA.
Mumbai Police have arrested the accused, identified as 50-year-old Anuj Sinha. A blood sample of the accused was also taken as per protocol.
Ajay Kumar Tiwari, an eyewitness recounted the incident. “A car was coming from behind towards the woman, as it came towards her, it bumped into her and she fell under it. After that, we took her out and immediately took her to the hospital, we had two other men with us to help.”
Another local on the scene of the incident, Zaid, said that overspeeding on the road is a common occurrence. “Here it is a common occurrence that whenever people come here they overspeed. This car also might have been travelling at a speed of 80-140 kilometers,” he said.
