Expenditure Observer reviews election preparedness in Kathua

KATHUA, SEPTEMBER 06: Election Expenditure Observer for Kathua Atesham Ansari, today conducted a comprehensive review meeting with the Returning Officers (ROs) of the assembly constituencies within assigned jurisdiction, as part of the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Legislative Assembly Elections scheduled for 1st October 2024.

During the meeting, the Observer emphasized the importance of strict adherence to the guidelines related to expenditure monitoring and ensuring transparency throughout the election process. He met with the Assistant Expenditure Observers (AEOs) and accounting teams from all three constituencies in Kathua. The discussions centered around the “Dos and Don’ts” of expenditure monitoring, underlining the responsibility of these teams in tracking candidate expenditure and maintaining detailed records for the election commission’s scrutiny.

The Observer, accompanied by Assistant Commissioner Kathua Jarad Pratik Anil, also visited crucial Static Surveillance Teams (SSTs) deployed along sensitive locations at the Punjab border in Lakhanpur, Keerian Gandial, and the International Border in Hiranagar. These teams play a vital role in monitoring the movement of goods, cash, and other potential violations of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC).

The Observer took detailed note of the functioning of the mandated teams, inspecting their on-ground operations to ensure compliance with the Election Commission’s directives. He appreciated the efforts made so far but urged all teams to remain vigilant, given the border’s sensitivity and the critical nature of maintaining a level playing field during the election.
