3rd National Lok Adalat held across Kashmir

SRINAGAR, SEPTEMBER 14: In pursuance to the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) calendar, and under the directions of Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority, the 3rd National Lok Adalat was on Saturday held across all the districts of Kashmir by the respective District Legal Services Authorities (DLSAs) for amicable settlement of cases of different nature.


The Lok Adalat was held under the insightful directions of Justice Tashi Rabstan, Chief Justice (Acting) High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, (Patron-in-Chief & Executive Chairman J&K Legal Services Authority).


Lok Adalat is an alternative dispute redressal mechanism where disputes and cases pending in courts of law or at the pre-litigation stage are settled or compromised amicably to reduce the load on the regular court system.


The matters placed before the benches included cases of Civil, Criminal Compoundable, Cheque bounce, Bank matters, MACT, Land Compensation, Matrimonial, Electricity and Pre-litigation matters. Further, Pre-litigation matters were taken up, which included PDD matters, bank recovery matters, PHE cases, Social Welfare Schemes, Labour, Revenue, Matrimonial disputes, land disputes, BSNL cases, municipality cases and other Government schemes etc.


At Baramulla, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Baramulla, held a Lok Adalat under the chairmanship of Jawad Ahmad, Chairman DLSA (Principal District & Sessions Judge), Baramulla, and under the supervision of Manzoor Hussain, Secretary DLSA, Sub Judge Baramulla.


The Lok Adalat comprised of 07 Benches in District Baramulla, of which 02 benches were constituted at District court Baramulla, 02 benches at TLSC Sopore, 01 bench at TLSC Pattan, 01 bench at TLSC Uri and 01 bench at TLSC Tangmarg.


A total 7163 different Cases/matters were taken up in which 6748 different Cases/matters were amicably settled. An amount of Rs. 77526113/- was realized in different cases settled during the lok adalat.


At Srinagar, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Srinagar organized 3rd National LokAdalat for the amicable settlement of cases, at the District Court Complex Mominabad Srinagar under the direction and supervision of Jaffer Hussain Beg, Chairman DLSA (Ld. Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Srinagar and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Srinagar.


The 3rd National Lok Adalat at District Court Srinagar was inaugurated by Jaffer Hussain Beg (Pr. District & Sessions Judge).


To facilitate the amicable settlement of cases, 09 benches were constituted for the said National Lok Adalat. Overall 72490 cases were taken up for settlement out of which 65507 cases were amicably settled and Rs. 72045110 was awarded as settlement amount.


The National Lok Adalat witnessed a huge participation of officers/officials from different departments, litigants, Advocates, law students etc.


At Ganderbal, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Ganderbal, organized a National Lok-Adalat under the supervision of Abdul Nasir, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (Pr. District & Sessions Judge), Ganderbal, and guidance of Tabasum, Chief Judicial Magistrate (Secretary DLSA) Ganderbal.
Three benches were constituted for amicable settlement of the cases, among which the first and second bench heard cases at the court complex, Ganderbal, while as the third bench heard cases at the court complex Kangan.
A total number of 1046 cases were taken up by the three benches, out of which 833 cases were successfully settled and an amount of Rs 66,44,085 was awarded as settlement amount.
At Budgam, the National Lok Adalat was organized at District Court Complex Budgam and Taluka Courts of the District under the supervision of O.P Bhagat, Chairman of District Legal Services Authority Budgam (Ld. Pr. District & Sessions Judge) Budgam and under the supervision of Nusrat Ali Hakak, Secretary DLSA Budgam.
The National Lok Adalat was inaugurated by O.P Bhagat Principal District & Sessions Judge (Chairman District Legal Services Authority) Budgam, at District Court Complex Budgam.
Each Court had identified cases for Lok Adalat before hand and same were placed before five (05) different benches constituted by DLSA Budgam for their settlement in National Lok Adalat.
Nonetheless, a total number of 1293 matters were taken up for their amicable settlement, out of which 300 matters were settled. Besides, an amount of Rs. 79,42,888 was realized in total in the settlement.
At Kupwara, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Kupwara, under the aegis of NALSA & JK Legal Services Authority, organized 3rd National Lok Adalat of 2024 across District Kupwara today.
The said Lok Adalat was held under the supervision of Shazia Tabasum, Chairperson, District Legal Services Authority, (Pr. District & Session Judge) Kupwara, and guidance of Moneer Ahmad, Secretary, DLSA Kupwara.
Four (04) Benches were constituted for the said Lok Adalat comprising of Presiding Officers and Members for the amicable settlement/ compromise of the cases.
A total number of 622 cases were taken up by all the benches, of which 234 cases were disposed of as settled on spot by intervention of the benches and by participation of the lawyers and litigants.
A total sum of Rs. 8436653 was awarded to the aggrieved parties by settlement during the said National Lok Adalat.
At Bandipora, the National Lok Adalat was held under the supervision of Chairman District Legal Services Authority, (Pr. District & Session Judge) Bandipora, Khalil Ahmad Choudhary and able guidance of Iqbal Ahmad Akhoon Secretary District Legal Services Authority, Bandipora.
A total of five (05) Benches were constituted for the said Lok Adalat comprising of Presiding Officers and Members for amicable settlement/compromise of the referred cases.
A total No. of 1005 Cases were taken up by the Benches and out of which 566 Cases were settled as disposed and a total sum of 50,56,810 was awarded to the aggrieved parties by settlement during the said Lok Adalat.
At Pulwama, the National Lok-Adalat was organized in District Court & other subordinate courts of District Pulwama under the Chairmanship of Naseer Ahmad Dar, Chairman District Legal Services Authority (Pr.District & Sessions Judge), Pulwama and under the supervision of Zahoor Ahmad Ganaie, Secretary DLSA Pulwama.
The Lok-Adalat at District headquarters Pulwama was inaugurated by PDJ Pulwama.
A total number of 734 cases were taken up by 04 benches in the district out of which 348 cases were settled in the said Lok-Adalat.
An amount of Rs, 1,20,99,600 was awarded as settlement amount in all cases including award of Rs. 38,66,000 in 10 MACT Cases.
At Shopian, the Chairman DLSA (Principal District and Sessions Judge) Shopian, Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary today inaugurated 3rd National Lok Adalat at District Court Shopian.
For the said National Lok Adalat, 02 Benches were constituted by the DLSA.
Total no of 148 Cases were taken up, out of which 70 Cases were settled amicably in the today’s National Lok Adalat with a settlement amount Rs.12,30,400.
At Anantnag, the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Anantnag organized National Lok Adalat at District Court Complex Anantnag.
A total of four (04) benches were constituted at District Headquarter by DLSA.
Apart from the benches constituted at DLSA headquarter, 04 benches were constituted in peripheral courts to conduct National Lok Adalat at Court Complex Bijbehara, Court Complex Vailoo, Court Complex Shangus and Court Complex Dooru.
A total of 15,539 different Cases/ matters were taken up in which 14,949 different Cases/matters were amicably settled. An amount of Rs. 2,23,29,345 was amicably settled in different cases.
