UP CM calls for strict action against anarchists involved in alleged railway sabotage conspiracies
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], September 16 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday instructed police officials to heighten vigilance and take strict action against those involved in alleged conspiracies to sabotage railway tracks or cause railway accidents.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter), CM Yogi Adityanath said, “In the last few days, there have been indications of a conspiracy to damage railway tracks or cause a railway accident. Some people have also been arrested. This is a very serious matter. Zone and range level police officers should maintain constant contact with the GRP and RPF of their area. Increased intelligence and strict action should be taken against every anarchist element involved in this big conspiracy.”
This statement follows an incident in Kanpur where a major tragedy was narrowly avoided. A damaged gas cylinder, along with other ‘objectionable’ materials, was found near the railway track where the Kalindi Express had halted, triggering an alarm. The train, which was travelling from Prayagraj to Bhiwani in Haryana, came to a stop after the train driver spotted the cylinder and applied emergency brakes.
The incident occurred around 8 pm near Munderi village, between Barrajpur and Bilhaur stations. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police Harish Chander, the driver noticed the cylinder around 8:30 p.m. and immediately stopped the train. “The cylinder rolled off to the side, and the train halted,” said Chander.
Following the incident, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) was notified and launched an initial investigation. Local police were also informed. “A damaged cylinder and other objectionable materials were found at the site,” Chander added. Senior officials and forensic teams are currently on the ground conducting a thorough investigation. “All angles are being probed, and a detailed investigation is underway,” Chander said.
Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief and former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati also commented on the matter. In a post on X, she said, “It is satisfying that the conspiracy to cause a train accident by placing gas cylinders, etc. on the railway track in Kanpur failed. After a high-level investigation, strict action against the culprits is necessary to maintain public and rail safety.”
Authorities are now investigating the motive behind the incident and ensuring that safety measures are in place to prevent any future accidents.
