JKNC promises overhaul of Public Distribution System, criticizes BJP’s neglect of Jammu’s poor

Babu Rampaul leads election campaign of Ajay Sadhotra, urges voters to support JKNC

Jammu:17-09-24: Intensifying campaign for party candidate in Jammu North Assembly constituency, former Minister and President of JKNC Central Zone, Babu Rampaul today launched a scathing attack on BJP for its failure in mitigating the sufferings of poor and deprived people of Jammu and Kashmir.

Addressing an election meeting, Babu Rampaul asked the party workers and leaders to continue a vigorous campaign to ensure victory of their candidate Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Former Minister and senior leader NC.

He stated that JKNC has thoughtfully crafted their election manifesto which envisions empowerment of poor and deprived sections of the society.

One such election promise is strengthening of the Public Distribution System (PDS) to ensure food security and improve access to essential commodities for all citizens, he said.

The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference has laid out a comprehensive strategy to achieve this, which includes the key measures including Increasing Free Rice Allocation under which free rice to the tune of 10 kg per person per month will be provided. This will help alleviate the burden on families, particularly those in need, by providing a stable source of nutrition, Ram Paul stated.

He further said that the initiative further extended to the general public, ensuring that they were entitled to 10 kg of rice or Atta (flour) per person per month. This measure aims to provide equitable access to essential grains, ensuring that every citizen can meet their basic dietary needs.

The party has also promised to review Kerosene and Sugar Allocation. The goal is to adopt a similar approach taken by other states in India, ensuring fairness and sufficiency in the distribution of these critical household commodities.

Further, efforts will be made to improve the Public Distribution System itself, making it more people-friendly. This includes streamlining operations and ensuring better service delivery to the public, addressing any bottlenecks that may hinder the smooth functioning of PDS outlets.

To prevent shortages, there is a commitment to ensure that PDS outlets are adequately stocked with food grains. This ensures that there is a timely supply of commodities to avoid the panic and inconvenience caused by shortages, he added.

Former minister further said, “We understand the immense contribution of women, especially those heading households, in the socio-economic fabric of our society. Therefore, we are making a solemn promise to take concrete steps for the welfare of women and families.”

Elaborating on election promises for women and other marginalized sections, he said that they were pledged to provide financial security by offering ₹5000 per month to female heads of economically weaker sections (EWS) households which he said would ensure stability for families who rely on women for leadership and support.

He further said that they would empower women entrepreneurs by implementing schemes that provide financial assistance and resources to help them thrive in the business world.

In order to alleviate the burden of household expenses, our party will provide 12 free LPG cylinders annually to families in the EWS category, ensuring that no family struggles to meet their basic needs, he added.

Also speaking, Dr Vikas Sharma, Zonal Secretary and Coordinator Jammu District JKNC said that the promises made by them in their election manifesto demonstrate a sincere effort to make the PDS more robust, efficient, and responsive to the needs of the people. It reflects a commitment to addressing food security at the grassroots level, ensuring that every citizen has access to essential goods in a fair and timely manner.

These steps will not only benefit the marginalized sections of society but will also reinforce trust in the government’s ability to provide for its citizens during challenging times. With the proper implementation of these measures, we hope to see an improvement in the quality of life for many, he added.

He urged the voters not to get swayed by the fake narratives being spread by BJP and vote for their peace and prosperity that can be guaranteed only by JKNC.
