Cricket match promotes Voter Awareness under SVEEP initiative at Ganderbal
GANDERBAL, SEPTEMBER 18: A thrilling cricket match between District Administration XI and District Youth Services and Sports (YSS) XI was organized under the banner of the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) initiative at the Government College of Physical Education, Gadoora, Ganderbal.
The event was hosted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, District Ganderbal, in collaboration with the District Election Office Ganderbal to spread awareness about the importance of electoral participation.
District Administration XI, after winning the toss, opted to bat first in the 18-over game. The team managed to put up a score of 80 runsl, with Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Mohammad Altaf, delivering a standout performance, scoring 25 runs off just 10 balls. In response, YSS Ganderbal XI chased down the target comfortably in 10 overs, winning the match by 5 wickets.
The match was graced by the District Election Officer Ganderbal, Shyambir, who acknowledged the efforts of the organizers and praised the teams for their participation in such a meaningful event.
The initiative was aimed at promoting voter education and encouraging citizens to participate actively in the democratic process, especially with the upcoming Assembly Elections.
During the presentation ceremony, Deputy District Election Officer Ganderbal, Abid Iqbal Malik, highlighted the significance of the SVEEP initiative, which focuses on increasing voter awareness and participation by engaging the public through various activities and events. He urged the local population to exercise their right to vote in the forthcoming elections.
Assistant Commissioner Revenue also spoke about the importance of voter participation and commended the organizers for the successful execution of the event.
The SVEEP initiative, a flagship program of the Election Commission of India, seeks to engage citizens, particularly first-time voters, through sports, cultural events, and community outreach programs to ensure that every eligible voter understands the importance of their vote in shaping the democratic process.
