Animal Husbandry Department Leh, Celebrates World Rabies Day 2024

Leh, Sept 28, 2024 – The Animal Husbandry Department Leh celebrated World Rabies Day 2024 with a series of events. This year’s theme, “Breaking Rabies Boundaries,” underscores the need for progress and innovation in the fight against rabies, emphasizing the importance of integrating human, animal, and environmental health efforts.

At the Disease Investigation Section of the Department, the Laboratory Officer engaged with pets and domestic animal owners to educate them about the significance of World Rabies Day. The officer provided information on rabies, its control and prevention, and emphasized the importance of pre and post-exposure vaccinations for animals. The initiative is crucial for achieving the global goal of “Zero by 30,” which aims to eliminate dog-mediated human rabies deaths by 2030.

In another significant step, the Department started this year’s Animal Birth Control and Anti-Rabies Program on this day. The ABC & AR team conducted a camp at HIMANK area of Leh, successfully sterilizing 30 dogs and vaccinating them against rabies.
