DDC Chairman Udhampur chairs DDCs, BDCs meeting to discuss provisions of property tax

UDHAMPUR, February 25: Chairperson District Development Council, Udhampur Lal Chand today chaired a meeting of DDCs and BDCs to inform them about the provisions of newly rolled out Property Tax. 

Deputy Commissioner, Udhampur Krittika Jyotsna, Senior Superintendent of Police, Dr Vinod Kumar, Additional District Development Commissioner, Ghan Shyam Singh who is also Chief Executive Officer DDC,  besides DDCs and BDCs attended the meeting.

The DDCs and BDCs were sensitized about the newly introduced property tax launched by the UT Administration. The Deputy Commissioner briefed the meeting about the property tax and said that J&K has one of the lowest property tax rates in India.

The DC informed that Agriculture land, Residential houses in rural areas and built-up area of 1000 sqft, places of worship such as Temples, Masjids, Gurudwaras, churches and ziarats, cremation and burial grounds are all exempted from property tax. Besides, Property tax money will be deposited in the accounts of ULBs.

 Later, District Administration Udhampur convened a meeting on property tax with the Municipal Council  Udhampur attended by MC president Dr Jogeshwar Gupta and other Municipal Councillors.

Additional Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Syed Khan briefed the meeting about the property tax. He informed that tax Implication is linked with Stamp Duty Rates while Tax collected shall be deposited in the Bank Account of the concerned Municipality and the same would be utilized by Municipalities for improving infrastructure/services in the Town. He added that this Tax is progressive in nature with minimal implications on households and businesses.
