DM Jammu fixes Rs 50 Per Quintal as paddy cleaning charges

JAMMU, OCTOBER 19: District Magistrate, Sachin Kumar Vaishya, has issued a circular fixing the paddy cleaning charges at Rs 50 per quintal for the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season 2024.

It has been decided that Rs 50 per quintal will be charged by Mandi Labour Contractors for the cleaning of paddy. The circular strictly enjoins that no contractor may charge above this rate. “Any deviation from these instructions will be met with strict action in accordance with the law,” the circular stated.

The move is expected to bring uniformity in the levy of charges across all seasonal procurement mandis in the district.

The circular issued by the office of the DM highlights that 12 seasonal procurement mandis have been established in Jammu district. These mandis are tasked with ensuring that local farmers receive the government-mandated Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their produce. For the current season, the MSP for paddy has been set at Rs 2300 per quintal for common varieties and Rs. 2320 per quintal for Grade A paddy, as per the rates fixed by the Government of India.
