DLSA Kathua hosts Legal Awareness Program on Legal Services Institutions, Role of Paralegal Volunteers
KATHUA, OCTOBER 22: A legal awareness programme on the functions of Legal Services Institutions, the role of paralegal volunteers, and the process of applying for legal aid was held here today under the guidance of Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kathua Jatinder Singh Jamwal, (Principal District and Sessions Judge, Kathua) and Secretary, DLSA Kamiya Singh Andotra
The programme was attended by paralegal volunteers, staff of the DLSA Kathua, and the Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel.
The Secretary DLSA Kathua emphasized the critical role paralegal volunteers play as intermediaries between the public and Legal Services Institutions.
She highlighted that their work is essential for removing barriers to accessing justice, noting that paralegal volunteers serve as the “eyes and ears” of the Legal Services Authority.
The Secretary further urged the volunteers to spread awareness among citizens under the banner of “Legal Aid – Your Right,” helping people understand their rights and access legal assistance without fear or prejudice.
Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel Puneet Kumari also addressed the gathering, reminding the volunteers of their moral and social responsibilities.
She encouraged them to fulfill their duties as outlined by the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) and to perform their roles in accordance with the law.
The event aimed to enhance the understanding of legal aid processes and strengthen the role of paralegal volunteers in ensuring justice for all.
