DC Kupwara chairs Road Safety Committee meeting

Directs Officers to intensify enforcement of traffic rules

KUPWARA, NOVEMBER 28: The Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan today chaired a meeting of District Road Safety Committee to review the implementation of traffic regulation and enforcement measures in the district. 

Addressing the meeting, the DC stressed upon the officers to intensify the enforcement of traffic regulations on the ground and tighten the noose on traffic offenders to avert the possibility of road accidents in the district. 

She expressed her concern over the increasing number of traffic accidents which happened recently across the UT and directed the officers to deal strictly against the persons involved in different traffic violations including underage driving, rash driving, overloading  etc to safeguard the precious lives. 

The DC directed the officers of Police department and Traffic Police to conduct special drives jointly to put check on violations including underage driving which will go a long way to aware the people to seriously follow the traffic rules. 

The Dy.SPs of Police Kupwara and Handwara were directed to ensure that the Police posts on different roads also put check on traffic violations and ensure night vigil keeping in view the scarcity of Traffic police personnel. They were also directed to ensure strict action against the offenders travelling on different hilly roads without adhering to safety precautions issued by the District Administration from time to time. 

The ARTO, Police, Traffic department were directed to chart out a comprehensive plan for conducting of mass awareness about the road safety.

The ARTO was directed to hold awareness programmes in schools and colleges so that the youth are informed about the road safety and traffic rules.

The SE R&B was asked to ensure curve improvement in major roads of the district especially hilly roads to remove the black spots which are prone to accidents.

Earlier, it was informed in the meeting that about 80000 challans have been imposed on various offenders by the Traffic Police department in the district and a fine of Rs.1.68 crore have been realized during the ongoing calendar year.  

The Snow clearance measures during the winter season were also reviewed in the meeting. 

The meeting was attended by SE R&B Department Kupwara, CMO, Dy. CEO, ARTO, EOs, besides, officers from Police, Traffic, BEACON, and other concerned officers.
