Modi Govt’s 1,636 Cr Allocation to boost Tribal Welfare, Nutrition: Dr Tahir

J&K BJP Spokesperson and senior leader Dr Tahir Chowdhary said that the Modi Government’s decision to allocate over Rs 1,636 crore for the fiscal year 2023-24, will boost the welfare and nutrition of tribal communities in Jammu & Kashmir.

“This historic funding boost will be directed towards two major programs— the Development Action Plan for Scheduled Tribes (DAPST) and Mission Poshan 2.0— which are set to significantly improve the socio-economic conditions and nutritional standards in the Union Territory”, said Dr. Tahir.

Dr Tahir Chowdhary thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and expressed strong support for the Government’s commitment to the development of tribal areas, noting that the increased allocation for DAPST, amounting to Rs 1,106.11 crore, marks a substantial rise from previous years.

He highlighted that this funding will address key areas such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, agriculture, electrification, skill development, and employment generation for tribal communities.

“The Rs 1,636 crore allocation is a testament to the government’s resolve to empower the tribal population in J&K. It is not just a financial boost but a step towards ensuring holistic development, including better healthcare, education, and improved living conditions,” said Dr Choudhary.

The senior BJP leader also praised the progress of Mission Poshan 2.0 in the region, with J&K receiving Rs 530.88 crore under the program in 2023-24. This initiative, which focuses on tackling malnutrition, benefits over 8.25 lakh people in the region, including children, pregnant women, lactating mothers, and adolescent girls.

Chowdhary emphasized that the government’s persistent focus on addressing the nutritional needs and socio-economic upliftment of vulnerable tribal communities is a reflection of its commitment to inclusive development.

“These initiatives will ensure that J&K’s tribal communities are not left behind in the broader development process and will have access to opportunities for growth and prosperity,” he added.
