2-Days Veshow Literary Festival commences at GDC Kulgam

Event attracts diverse audience including literary figures, students & art enthusiasts

KULGAM, DECEMBER 23: A two day ‘Veshow Literary Festival’ was inaugurated today at the Degree College Kulgam campus by Chairperson, District Development Council (DDC) Kulgam, M Afzal Parray along with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Kulgam Athar Aamir Khan and SSP Kulgam Sahil Sarangal.

Organized by the District Administration Kulgam, the festival has drawn a diverse audience, including literary figures, students, and art enthusiasts.

The event brought together leading writers, poets including Prof Shad Ramzaan, Prof Majru Rashid, Prof Shafaqat Altaf, Yousuf Jahangir, Mayasar Nashaad, Dr M Shafi Ayaz, Riyaz Anznoo, Nazir Ahmad Reshi, Shabeena Ara, Gumnaam Gani, Nadim Shoqia and others offering an engaging platform for literary discourse.

The festival highlighted local heritage through vibrant displays of traditional art and captivating musical performances by local artists and students.

Addressing the gathering, DDC Chairperson emphasized the importance of such events in promoting the literary traditions of the region. He applauded the initiative as a platform for nurturing local talent and celebrating Kulgam’s rich cultural tapestry.

Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner said that literature reflects our society, struggles and dreams, uniting us through shared humanity.

He also highlighted Jammu and Kashmir’s rich literary legacy, particularly in South Kashmir, home to iconic figures like Sheikh-ul-Alam.

He also emphasized the timeless philosophies and writings of Mehmood Gami, Sochi Kral, Krishan Joo Razdan, and Prakash Ram, which continue to inspire generations.

The DC added that it is our collective responsibility to preserve and promote our literary traditions, ensuring they inspire future generations and reflect our cultural identity on the global stage.

During the programme, magazine ‘Saaz Kolan Hund’ was also released.
