Nubra Sheep Husbandry Dept distributes subsidized feed, highlights livestock benefits

On January 10, 2025, the Nubra Sheep Husbandry Department conducted an awareness program in Tangyar, attended by livestock farmers from Tangyar, Khema and Digger. Forty-one quintals of cattle feed, 75% subsidized by the LAHDC Leh, were distributed to participating farmers.

The program emphasized optimal nutrition for gravid livestock, the nutritional benefits of goat’s milk, the agricultural value of sheep and goat manure in organic farming, and the advantages of mechanical sheep rearing. Information regarding the Kisan Credit Card (KCC) scheme and other departmental programs was also provided to the livestock rearers.

The local head (Nambardar) concluded the program by submitting requests for the introduction of sheep breeds yielding wool in colors other than white and the construction of small, predator-proof corrals at the individual household level.
