Central University of Jammu Achieves NCTE Recognition for M.Ed. Programme
Jammu, 31 January 2025: In a landmark achievement, the Departments of Educational Studies, Central University of Jammu has secured recognition from the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to offer the Master of Education (M.Ed.) programme. The recognition was granted under Clause 7(16) of the NCTE Regulations, 2014, during the 431st meeting (Volume-1) of the Northern Regional Committee (NRC-NCTE) held in New Delhi. This approval marks a significant milestone in the university’s commitment to quality teacher education and academic excellence.
Before 2019, NCTE did not regulate teacher education at the university, and hence, no separate validation was required for its M.Ed. programme. However, with evolving educational policies and regulatory frameworks, NCTE has now been entrusted with overseeing teacher education standards nationwide. The Central University of Jammu’s recognition stands as a testament to its adherence to the highest academic benchmarks.
Prof. Sanjeev Jain, Vice Chancellor, Central University of Jammu congratulated the Department and hailed this recognition as a proud moment for the institution. This is a remarkable step towards enhancing the teacher education landscape at our university.
Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, CU Jammu said that the University is committed to maintaining the highest academic standards and contributing to the field of teacher education.
Prof. Asit K. Mantry, Head of the Department of Educational Studies, shared his enthusiasm and said that this recognition will pave the way for the students to receive nationally accredited training, ensuring they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to excel in the field of education. Prof. Mantry conveyed his best regards to the Vice-Chancellor, Registrar, and Prof. J.N. Baliya, member of NRC-NCTE, for playing a key role in the recognition process. The faculty members Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dr Kiran, Dr Aman, Dr Ravi Vanguri, Dr Yad Ram, and Dr Mohan along with scholars and students celebrated this moment
The NCTE recognition will be effective from the academic session 2025-26, allowing aspiring educators to be enrolled in a programme that meets the national regulatory standards. With this new milestone, the Central University of Jammu reaffirms its position as a premier institution for teacher education and pedagogical innovation.
This recognition not only strengthens the university’s academic portfolio but also aligns it with the national vision of improving teacher education standards across India. The Central University of Jammu looks forward to welcoming future educationists to a programme that promises excellence, innovation, and a bright future in the teaching profession.
