Watershed Yatra reaches Udhampur District amid grand celebration
UDHAMPUR, FEBRUARY 7: The Watershed Yatra under the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana 2.0 was accorded a grand welcome upon its arrival in District Udhampur.

To mark the occasion, the Integrated Watershed Management Programme Department organized an impressive event at Government High School Malhar.
The event witnessed the enthusiastic participation of Member Legislative Assembly Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania; Additional District Development Commissioner, Rajinder Singh; DDC Member Puran Chand, Project Manager Tanveer-Ul-Majid Wani along with other district officers, former PRI members and a large number of local residents.
Addressing the gathering, MLA Udhampur East extended his gratitude to the organizers for conducting this impressive awareness program. He emphasized the urgent need for water conservation, soil preservation and the cleanliness of water bodies. He further highlighted that the primary objective of the campaign is to sensitize the masses about water management and rainwater harvesting. He further stressed that Malhar should be developed as a model for water conservation in the district and urged participants to work in unison to protect and conserve water resources for future generations. He called for greater awareness about rainwater harvesting techniques, encouraging the community to harness and utilize rainwater effectively. Pathania underscored the importance of judicious water use, water hygiene and sustainable conservation practices. He urged the public to keep water bodies clean and take proactive measures to preserve them for future needs.
Earlier, the program commenced with the singing of the National Anthem, followed by the lighting of the traditional lamp and Saraswati Vandana.
The Project Officer briefed participants on the aims and objectives of the Watershed Yatra, elaborating on its crucial role in mitigating climate change challenges and ensuring long-term agricultural sustainability. He also administered a watershed conservation pledge to all participants.
The celebrations featured a vibrant cultural program featuring nukkad nataks, songs, dances presented by the students of different schools.
DDC Member Puran Chand also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the significance of water conservation and active community participation in watershed activities. He urged people to embrace government welfare schemes aimed at ensuring sustainable development and environmental protection.
Later, MLA Udhampur East, flagged off the Watershed Van from Malhar. The van will continue its journey, covering various areas to spread awareness about watershed development and sustainable water management practices.
