He was addressing press conference, along with BJP media Incharge Dr. Pardeep Mahotra and SC Morcha senior leader, Hans Raj Loria, at party headquarters.
Balbir Ram Rattan expressed appreciation for this decision, calling it a true honour to the great Indian saint, guru Ravidass. He said that the Guru Ravidass Jayanti holds immense spiritual and cultural significance for millions of people across the country, especially for the followers of the saint’s teachings. By declaring it a public holiday, the government has ensured that all citizens can observe and participate in the celebrations.
Balbir shared that Guru Ravidass, a prominent 15th-century saint, is revered for his teachings on social equality, love, and devotion to God, with a special focus on uplifting marginalized communities. His followers across India and abroad celebrate his birthday with great fervour.
This declaration comes as a proof to the BJP-led government’s commitment to promoting cultural heritage.
Balbir Ram Rattan further said that it is not first instance of showing true respect and honour to Guru Ravidass by BJP and the Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
In August 2023, Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone for a temple-cum-memorial dedicated to Sant Ravidass in Badtuma village of Sagar district in Madhya Pradesh. The project, estimated at over 100 crore rupees, will span 11 acres, and feature a museum, art gallery, and residential facilities for devotees. Construction of such a grand temple itself speaks of the PM Modi government’s commitment to honouring the legacy of Dalit icons and supporting marginalized communities through various initiatives.
Balbir Ram Rattan, on behalf of the social organizations, with which he is associated and on behalf of the Ravidasia community, expressed gratitude to the Modi government for showering respect to Guru Ravidass from time to time.
