Two Day National Workshop on Importance of Industrial Safety under PM-USHA Concludes atSMVDU


The two-day National Workshop on the Importance of Industrial Safety, held at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) under Pradhan Mantri Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan, successfully concluded today. The workshop was coordinated by Dr. Sanjeev Anand, along with co-coordinators Dr. Yatheshth Anand and Dr. Vineet V. Tyagi, brought together experts from various industrial sectors to discuss key safety measures and strategies.

Prof. Pragati Kumar, Vice-Chancellor SMVDU congratulated the team for organizing such workshops as this bridges the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that students gain practical knowledge of industrial safety standards.
In his welcome address Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean Academic Affairs and Chairman, PM-USHA at SMVDU emphasized the role of safety awareness in reducing workplace hazards and fostering a culture of preventive measures in industrial sectors.
The event featured notable speakers from industry and consultancy organizations which includes Dr. Atin Kumar Pathak, India Head for Climate Change and Sustainability at RINA, who provided insights into various safety aspects the classification bodies are evaluating before issuing necessary certifications.

Er. Amit Sharma, DGM (Mechanical) at Jammu and Kashmir Power Development Corporation emphasized the role of safety in power generation with videos of safety drill being conducted at hydro power plants. Er. Vikrant Chib, Consultant and Assistant Engineer at Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited discussed electrical safety protocols.
The requirement of these protocols for ensuring safe and reliable power supply. Mr. Gaurav Singh, Environmental Health and Safety Manager at Berger India Limited, shared best practices for maintaining workplace environmental, health, and safety (EHS) standards. He shared what is being practiced at Berger India. Er. Ankush Kotwal, an IT and Planning Expert at Berger India Limited, highlighted the role of technology in industrial safety planning.

Additionally, Mr. Manish Kumar, Associate Director at Care Analytics and Advisory Pvt. Ltd., joined the workshop through an online mode, providing valuable insights into data-driven approaches for improving industrial safety and risk assessment.

The workshop also included the demonstration of various Fire Fighting Equipment to the participants by a team from Fire Station Kakryal under the guidance of Er. Sarvesh Langer, Asstt. Director Fire and Emergency Services, Reasi The workshop aimed to enhance students understanding of industrial safety protocols, risk
management, and sustainable safety solutions. Participants were introduced to the latest safety technologies, workplace hazard identification, emergency response planning, and compliance with industrial safety regulations.

The speakers shared real-world case studies, demonstrating the impact of proper safety measures in preventing workplace accidents. The interactive sessions allowed students to engage with industry experts, gaining practical knowledge and career insights into industrial safety roles.

The coordinators expressed their gratitude to the Honorable Vice Chancellor, SMVDU, Prof. Pragati Kumar, along with Prof. Balbir Singh, Dean Academics, SMVDU, and Prof. K. R. Jha, Dean Faculty of Engineering, for their constant support and encouragement in making the workshop a success. The workshop served as a vital platform for knowledge exchange, focusing on strengthening industrial safety measures across various sectors and preparing students for safety-conscious careers
in the industry.
