Under Trail Review Committee meeting held at Kupwara

KUPWARA, APRIL 15: District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Kupwara, under the aegis of the Jammu & Kashmir Legal Services Authority, convened its 2nd Quarterly Under Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting today in the office chamber of the Secretary/ Sub-judge Kupwara.

The meeting, chaired by Mansoor Ahmad, Additional District & Session Judge (I/C Chairman UTRC Committee) Handwara, brought together relevant stakeholders from the Judiciary, Police, Administration, and Medical Fraternity to address the crucial issue of ensuring fair and speedy justice for under trial prisoners and measures to expedite the legal proceedings.

The committee reviewed the shortlisted 06 cases of UTPs falling within different categories as specified in NALSA’s, Standing Operating Procedure for UTRCs.

The meeting was attended by Moneer Ahmad, Sub-Judge/Secretary DLSA Kupwara; Chief Medical Officer, Kupwara Dr. Mir Ramzan; Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Kupwara, Mumtaz Ahmad; Executive Magistrate 1st Class, Handwara, Additional Superintendent Of Police, Kupwara, Public Prosecutor Kupwara, Superintendent of district Jail Kupwara and Deputy Chief LADC Kupwara.

The UTRC will continue to monitor the situation of under-trials and make recommendations of the inmates who fall within the categories laid down by the Supreme Court in the modified NALSA’s SOPs of UTRC.

The committee will also work closely with the relevant stakeholders including the judiciary, the bar, and the civil society organization to implement effective solutions.
