Jammu University releases its Environmental Policy
JAMMU, March 27: The University of Jammu under its Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) initiative released its Environmental Policy today. The policy aims to develop an environmentally sustainable and ecologically sound campus.
The Environmental policy of the University endeavours to create environmental consciousness among various stakeholders and strives to continually improve the environmental performance of the University for Sustainable Development of the campus. The University has committed to make sustained efforts towards the protection of the environment, prevention of pollution and promotion of green energy through appropriate eco-technological interventions. The Environmental policy has been formulated as a part of the green auditing process of University of Jammu for obtaining ISO-14001-2015 certification.
Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice-Chancellor, University of Jammu released the policy and appreciated the efforts of the Green Campus Task Force (GCTF-JU) and the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance (DIQA) for formulating the Environmental Policy and also for initiating the Green Auditing process for obtaining the ISO 14001-2015 Certification. Prof. Rai assured all kinds of support from his office for various green initiatives to be taken by GCTF-JU for the development of a sustainable University campus. He stressed upon the active participation of the students and research scholars in all the green initiatives in order to stimulate environmental consciousness and stewardship in the University.
“Involvement of students in various environmental domains will inculcate in them a sense of belongingness to the University”, emphasized Prof. Rai.
Prof. Piyush Malaviya, Convener GCTF-JU and Head, Department of Environmental Sciences welcomed all the members, and Dr. Deepika Slathia, Member Secretary, briefed the objectives laid out in the Environmental Policy.
The event was graced by Prof. Rajni Kant, Dean, Research Studies, Prof Arvind Jasrotia, Registrar, Prof. Jasbir Singh, Prof. Seema Langer, Prof. Neeru Sharma, Prof. Vishavraksha, Prof. Savita Nayyar, Dr. Anil Gupta, Dr. Hema Gandotra, Dr. Rashid Manhas, Dr. Rakesh Kumar Atri and Dr. Meenakshi Khajuria. Besides, University officials including Dr. Neeraj Sharma, Special Secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Ginny Dogra, Deputy Director, DIQA, Dr. S. Dubey, Mr. Amit Targotra, research scholars and students from the Department of Environmental Sciences were also present on occasion.
