Jammu University NSS Volunteers Participated in Three Days Workshop on Solid Waste Management organised by the Office of the Mayor
JAMMU, March 28: The volunteers of NSS Campus Units, University of Jammu participated in Three Days Workshop on Solid Waste Management organised by the Office of Mayor, Jammu Municipal Corporation from 28th March 2023 to 30th March 2023 under the Mentorship of Prof. Umesh Rai, Vice Chancellor and Chairman, NSS University of Jammu and able guidance of Prof. Savita Nayyar, Convenor, NSS Campus Units.
NSS volunteers from different departments of the university like the Department of Economics, Sociology, History, Strategic and Regional Studies, English, Punjabi, Dogri, Hindi, Philosophy, Law, The Law School and Directorate of Distance Education participated in the event. As a part of the campaign, first day an awareness campaign started from the Tawi Bridge from 9.00AM to 11.30 AM.
The volunteers displayed placards in their hands with slogans on NO IMMERSION OF SAKH IN RIVER TAWI, ‘SAVE SURYA PUTRI TAWI River and SAY NO TO POLYTHENE. They also interacted with the people passing over the bridge and spread awareness regarding Solid Waste Management and made people aware about the ill effects of throwing garbage in the Tawi River.
The awareness drive shall continue for another two days. This initiative is taken by the Mayor of the Jammu Municipal Corporation Sh.Rajinder Sharma. He also interacted with the volunteers and guided them how they can spread awareness about the Solid Waste Management and Save Surya Putri Tawi river.
Prof. Savita Nayyar, Convenor, NSS campus Units along with Dr. Shallu Sehgal Programme Officer Unit I, also the Coordinator of the event and Dr. Gopal Krishan Sharma,Faculty Department of Sociology, teacher incharge of the students of Department of Sociology also participated in the campaign.
