Inspected Y-20 Pre-Summit preparations

LEH, April 3: As Ladakh prepares to host the Y-20 Pre-summit from 26th to 28th April 2023 under the aegis of the G-20 India Summit, Secretary Youth Services, Government of India Meeta Rajivlochan visited Leh to inspect and discuss the arrangements with the concerned departments of UT Ladakh Administration, event management company Thomas Cook and representatives of the G-20 Secretariat.

Principal Secretary to UT Administration Sanjeev Khirwar (Chairman G-20 Committee), Commissioner Secretary Ajeet Sahu; Commissioner Secretary Padma Angmo; Administrative Secretary Ravinder Kumar; Administrative Secretary Kacho Mehbood Ali Khan; DIG Ladakh Police Sheikh Junaid and other concerned officials attended the meeting today.

Earlier today, the Secretary visited Sindhu Sanskriti Kendra, the main venue of the summit, and hotels where the guests shall be accommodated.

The Secretary, Rajivlochan enquired about the run-up events being conducted by the educational departments and stated that activities must pick up pace 15 days ahead to built up for the summit. She further stressed that spots will be reserved for students for their performance in the run-up events who will be felicitated during the summit, to ensure local participation.

Commissioner/Secretary Higher Education Department Padma Angmo informed of the various events conducted by the Department, with emphasis on the Sustainable Campus Challenge launched recently. Director School Education Department (SED), Ladakh Safdar Ali shared details of initiatives such as G-20 theme-based activities, reserving all Mondays of the week to G-20 activities, etc being undertaken by the Department.

Secretary Rajivlochan stressed the involvement of local youth from various backgrounds such as sports, entrepreneurship, art, medicine, etc.

Creating an introductory video of Ladakh highlighting aspects such as the economic growth of Ladakh with emphasis on broadened entrepreneurial opportunities for the youth, in the fields of handloom, handicrafts, food processing etc, were discussed during the meeting.

Keeping in view Ladakh’s high altitude, the meeting discussed the medical arrangements and ensuring that the delegates are briefed by a medical team prior to their visit to Ladakh.

The meeting also discussed in detail aspects such as the deputation of nodal officers, up gradation required at certain venues, ensuring smooth two-way internet connectivity at all venues, security arrangements, cultural events, and branding for the event.

The Y-20 Pre-summit is scheduled to be held in Leh from 26th to 28th April 2023 under the aegis of the G-20 India Summit.
