‘A Fly On The Wall’ by Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose heads to MAMI after Busan premiere
Mumbai, October 1, 2024: Following its world premiere at the 29th Busan International Film Festival, A Fly On The Wall, the deeply personal documentary directed by Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose, has been officially selected to screen at the 2024 edition of the Mumbai Film Festival (MAMI) in the prestigious Focus South Asia section.
The festival, running from October 19 to 24, celebrates the best of South Asian cinema, and the inclusion of A Fly On The Wall marks another significant milestone for the filmmakers.
The documentary poignantly captures Nilesh Maniyar and Shonali Bose chronicling the final week before their close friend Chika Kapadia’s appointment for physician-assisted suicide. A Fly On The Wall weaves a heartfelt narrative of love, loss, dignity, and the strength of human connection.
Speaking on the documentary’s selection at the Mumbai Film Festival, director Nilesh Maniyar expressed, “This film was born out of love for Chika, and we wanted to give people a story that is both deeply personal and universally relevant. Our hope is that A Fly On The Wall will open up necessary discussions around the difficult subject of physician-assisted suicide and provide a lens into how dignity and choice are navigated in the final moments of life. We are honoured to be part of the Focus South Asia section at MAMI, especially since it it our home city. ”
Shonali Bose echoed these sentiments, saying, “I am thrilled to have the Indian premiere of this deeply personal film of ours at MAMI. The festival is special for me as it screened my very first film Amu in 2005. Chika was born and brought up in Mumbai and that makes it even more meaningful to screen in the home city of all three of us.”
The Fly On The Wall is the third feature-length collaboration between Maniyar and Bose, who previously presented The Sky Is Pink and Margarita with a Straw at the Busan Film Festival. Their storytelling continues to evoke empathy, introspection, and conversation around difficult but essential themes.
The 2024 Mumbai Film Festival promises to be a grand celebration of South Asian filmmaking, and A Fly On The Wall stands out as a powerful narrative that explores both the beauty and complexities of life and death.
