A protest meeting at Talab Tillo by Congress Activists under the Leadership of Sh. Sanjeev Panda, Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee, J&K
Jammu, August 21 : A strong protest meeting was organized today by Congress Activists under the Leadership of Sh. Sanjeev Panda, Secretary, Pradesh Congress Committee, J&K over various public issues including installation of prepaid Electric meters, imposition of property tax and restoration of pension of widows, handicapped and old age pensions.
Large number of people participated in the meeting and raised their concerns equivocally. While addressing the agitating people Sh. Sanjeev Panda said that the current dispensation is hell bent to torment the people of Jammu City and disregarding the sentiments of the populace and making decisions that are out of alignment with the interest of the citizens.
Sh. Sanjeev Panda raised the serious concerns of people by denouncing the unwanted act of installation of prepaid meters by the LG Government. He said the one sided action of Government is making lives of the people miserable. Poor people of Jammu cannot afford to pay such hefty electricity bills.
He also expressed resentment over imposition of property tax in Jammu, saying that the present Government is imposing tax on everything from power supply, water supply to property but has totally failed to give even basic facilities to the citizens of Jammu.
Expressing resentment over stoppage of pension to handicapped, widows and old age persons, Sh. Sanjeev Panda said that due to wrong policies of the present J&K administration handicapped, widows and old age persons are on the verge of starvation but this cruel Government does not want to listen to them.
Hon’ble Corporator Smt. Sonika Sharma while addressing the gathering further warned that the Government’s actions are testing the patience of the people of J&K, and that continued such measures would be met with strong resistance.
