Aadhaar-based Subsidies to be enabled in Ladakh

Promote Digital Payment Systems at all levels: Advisor Narula

Leh, April 19: Advisor Ladakh, Umang Narula held a meeting to discuss the status of Digital Payment Systems in the Union Territory of Ladakh.

Vikas Sirohi, Digital Payment Professional from National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) presented the status of Aadhaar-based Direct Benefit Transfers (DBT), UPI Increment over the years, and the promotion of RuPay card in Ladakh.

It is pertinent to mention that amongst other developmental initiatives being promoted by GoI during India’s ongoing G20 presidency, showcasing India’s success in the Digital Economy is one of the objectives. Therefore, in sync with the national objective, UT Administration is striving to promote the use of digital payment systems in the Union Territory, especially during the scheduled Y-20 Pre-Summit in Leh from 26th to 28th April.

For the overall promotion of digital payment systems, Advisor Narula discussed possibilities in different sectors/departments, such as providing financial benefits/scholarships in schools and colleges, and medical benefits under the National Health Mission.

However, on an immediate basis, Advisor Narula suggested that QR code-based payments must be introduced at tourist hot spots and public parking points. He further directed the concerned officials to enable the system of Aadhaar-based Subsidies to the beneficiaries.

Advisor Narula stressed the need to publicize the use of digital payment platforms and directed Assistant General Manager/Convenor UTLBC, Ladakh, Tsering Morup to provide QR codes to all vendors, merchants, taxis and buses, especially the electric buses of the UT Administration.  
Director Accounts & Treasuries Dr. Safdar Ali, and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
