ADDC Shopian inaugurates Sensitization/ Training programme on ‘Implementation of Child Rights’
SHOPIAN, FEBRUARY 16: The Additional District Development Commissioner (ADDC) Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone today inaugurated one day sensitisation cum training programme of Child Protection Committee under Mission Vatsalya on the ‘Implementation of Child Rights’ at Government Degree College Shopian.
ADDC graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Principal Government Degree College, Shopian, Prof. Mohammad Shafiq was the Guest of Honour.
During his address, ADDC highlighted the significance of such training programmes in creating awareness and fostering a collective approach. He underscored the essential role played by collaborative efforts in ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children within the community.
The ADDC emphasised that the primary objective of the programme was to enlighten stakeholders about the Mission Vatsalya guidelines, ensuring a comprehensive understanding and implementation of child.
He appealed to the stakeholders to exhibit their best to implement the juvenile justice for child protection in the district. He laid emphasis on child protection to stop the child abuse prevailing in the society in different manifestations.
He said that the aim of the programme was to raise awareness regarding Child Rights and ensure the proper implementation of the Juvenile Justice Act in the district.
Speaking at the event, Tehsil Social Welfare Officer, Shopian, Farhana Tak explained the importance of the programme and gave a detailed description of the topic and its working mechanism at the district level.
Chairperson, CWC, Farooq Ahmed also highlighted that under the Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS), the department focuses on providing preventive, statutory care, and rehabilitation services to vulnerable children, including those from potentially vulnerable families, families at risk, orphans, child drug abusers, child beggars, trafficked or sexually exploited children.
He said that District Child Protection Unit , Child Welfare Committee (CWC), and Juvenile Justice Board (JJB), are actively working to ensure the implementation of child rights and juvenile justice acts, while also combating child labour and violations of relates laws.” He also focused on understanding child rights.
Various stakeholders, including, DDC Member, Raja Waheed, Administrator, OSC, Sumaira Gulzar, Members CWC, Representatives from DLSA, Police, Teachers, Media, Asha Workers and Anganwadi workers attended the programme.
